French Broad River Campsite

It was a day of mountain driving so we did a one night stopover in Asheville, North Carolina, on our way to the east coast.

Blossoms

We left Fall Creek Falls early this morning, stopping for breakfast at a Cracker Barrel along the way.  These are the first blossoms we've seen.

Piney Creek Falls Hike

This hike took us in sight of the waterfall.  Then we ventured down to the river and followed it to top of the falls.

Campsite at Fall Creek Falls

We are enjoying the peacefulness of this park.  It is family friendly.  Some young children at a nearby campsite love to stop to visit Skippy.  Last night they told us it was so cozy at our campsite they wanted to be our daughters.

Cane Creek Falls

Another hiking day!  The sound of the rushing water is so peaceful!

Off Road Adventure

Our GPS said this was the fastest route.....it was three and a half miles of this!  We stopped often to check the depth of the puddles.  Well, this is one of the reasons we bought a jeep.

Hiking

We have been enjoying the hiking here in the park.  The hikes range from difficult to easy.  On this hike we took the opportunity to challenge ourselves at one of the overlooks.  We did a steep climb down and then up again to reach a beautiful view of the falls.  We tried to convince a young couple to go first, but they opted not to attempt it.  The cool weather has been great for hiking.....no bugs!

Fall Creek Falls State Park

We will be in this park until March 26, 2014.  We have been learning how to operate all things in the motorhome.  We survived our first rain storm last night.  Skip is enjoying several walks throughout the day and is doing great on his rv etiquette!  We made a decision to stay here longer so we would have time to do plenty of hiking.....so far, mostly organizing and setting up.  We did take a peek at a few things. The picture is a portion of the main fall. We have only spotty internet service or cell phone.  Emails and text do come in occasionally so send them and we will respond when we can.  Our next destination is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on March 27th.

First Day....Not What We Expected!

It is Tuesday, March 11, 2014.  We are up at 4:30 a.m. After loading the refrigerator food and making a few rearrangements in the compartments, we depart our Lake Michigan home we have been renting since November 26, 2013.  What a blessing!  Thank you, Wayne and Cori.  The weather is good and traffic is light as we travel on 31 south towards Indianapolis.  Our destination is Fall Creek Falls State Park in Pikeville, Tennessee.  We selected this park because it has full hook-ups (we need to familiarize ourselves with all the functions of motorhome living) and it has the highest waterfall east of the Rockies so we could also get out for some good hikes.  We made a stop at one of our favorite food stores, Trader Joe's, southeast of Indianapolis.  Shortly after getting back on the road, we made a stop for diesel fuel....then back on the road.  Nineteen miles after getting diesel, the motorhome starting losing acceleration.  We quickly exited and pulled into a Cracker Barrel parking lot, contacted Mercedes, who arranged for a tow truck, and had breakfast while we waited.  The tow truck arrived (the driver was so considerate and careful....thank you, Jim) and towed us to Stoops.  We left the motorhome there, checked into a motel, and waited for a call.  At midnight, the call came....they had to replace the fuel valve....also, they took care of a recall and updated the electronics.  Se we escaped the Michigan snow, but not the Indianapolis snow.  On Wednesday morning we picked up the motorhome and decided to stay put here for one more night to sit out the snow and high wind warnings.

The Day Before

It is March 10, 2014.  We went to Wayland, Michigan, to General RV to have the motorhome checked out before our new departure date......March 11th.  The sunny day made it a great drive.  Chuck drove up and I drove back home.  We had to back into the driveway so we could hook up the Jeep.....I did not attempt the back-in.  Skip had his first ride today.  He is learning some new RVing etiquette.
A huge thanks to General RV and Bruce for their superb service!
